A Brief History:

I was born on August 4, 1974, at a Doctors' Hospital. I weighed 7lbs 14 oz. During my mother's pregnancy, it was reported that she used drugs. Now, in my opinion, I think that this might have been a time when she might have tried to stay sober. I have been told on numerous occasions that she tried "to clean up her act."

I had a chaotic early life with many moves.  To this day I remember almost

everywhere I have lived.  The Children's Aid Society became involved briefly in 1975 when my mother refused to let the public Health Nurse visit me. The nurse expressed concerns about my mother's mental health. To this day there were no signs of poor mental health. Even talking to people that knew her, never expressed any concerns. Chronic Alcoholic was the only thing that I remember growing up hearing about her. The Children's Aid Society found me to be well cared for and the case was closed. In 1983 and early 1984 the CAS investigated anonymous calls about my care. Allegations of abuse were unfounded. To talk about this is simple, I never once was abused by any member of my family at any time. Again the case was closed. I can certainly recall that I was in a safe place at all times and was well taken care of despite the calls made to the CAS.

There were a lot of times where I was on my own, looking for Jeff and or my mom. Constantly checking the Paddock Tavern at Queen and Bathurst. The Holiday Tavern was the other place they would frequent. Rarely did I find them.  The Society became involved again in July of 1984 after complaints that I was left alone and often hungry.  I do remember running the streets a lot and playing with friends and staying at their house.  It was said that my mother was verbally abusive but I doubt it.  I never once remember my mother ever yelling at me. Everything was always great when we were together. Such positive memories. I don't think I would have given her a reason to yell or scream and verbally abuse me.  I remember my mom living with different men who seem to be a father figure. But no one could replace Jeff at that time, and no one did. Jeff was always there for me. Despite him drinking all the time too.  December of 1984, at which time my mother and I were living in a family residence shelter. On December 27, 1984, my mother left me at the shelter with friends.  When she did not return after 24 hours, the shelter contacted CAS. I was immediately put into a foster home. I was frightened at first but later I was pleasantly surprised.  It was a great environment. New brothers and new parents. This is where my life changed! I don't know where or what I would have become. I would have no idea of my destiny. To this day, I am grateful that the Children's Aid intervened. I have nothing but great memories from my childhood. There were some bad ones, but not any that I wish to relive.

On December 31, 1984, I weighed 76 lbs and stood 56 inches tall.  I had blue eyes and straight dark-blond hair. I  was found to be healthy. I said that I had allergies up until the age of seven. I was pleasant, clean and well put together. I was polite and cooperative in my foster home and presented no behavioral difficulties. I was described as a bright, sensitive, responsible child. I needed help with feelings of anger and guilt so a referral was made for individual counseling.

I had a visit with my stepfather in April 1985. Two days later I had a visit with my mother.  A lot of these visits I remember taking place at the Children's Aid office. First, the visits were with my Family Worker, then I remember them being with the social worker of the foster home I was in...

When he reached the level of orange belt, he was asked to assist in classes by teaching Kenpo Karate to lower belts, a basic introduction to new students. He quickly found that passing knowledge onto others was both challenging and very rewarding.
